This month's Go Pro will tell you everything you need to know about becoming a firefighter. This one goes to all of you who dreamed about becoming a superhero when they were kids. The ones who are all about helping others no matter what. And also for those of you who like extreme experiences and adrenaline.
Can anyone become a fire fighter?
In order to apply for a job as a firefighter you need to meet some requirements:
Finish high school
Be 18 yeas old or older
Have a special drivers license saying you can drive a car that weighs up to 3.5 tons
Have no criminal record
Get a security clearance
What kind of practice do you need to go through?
If you meet all the requirements, apply for a job as a firefighter, and get in, you will need to go through a special training before you can save anyone from a burning building:
A 4-5 months of basic firefighter training.
A two year trial period in which you will be tested on both practical and theoretical skills.
Once you complete steps 1 and 2, you get certified as a professional firefighter.
Not many people know this but there are a few ranks of firefighters. To climb up the ranking ladder you will need to get further training, but don't let that bother you now. For now, just focus on saving lives.
What are the must-have skills for the job?
First, firefighters must be very brave, as they risk their lives to save others. Second of all, you need to perform well under pressure for obvious reasons. Since the training takes a long time, you will also need a lot of patience. Lastly, self discipline is also important since you need to make sure you are always in top shape.
